I can remember when we were young my mum , Jean and dad, Corb, exchanging visits with uncle Albert and aunt Sylvia. Mum absolutely adored Sylvia and thought of her like her own sister. Later I came to visit as a young adult and then with my husband , with my own young children and again last autumn 18 with my son, daughter Ella and her friends. Every time Sylvia made us so welcome and at home. My kids and their friends loved her. I can still recall the beautiful Christmas scene Sylvia had created in the den of their old house, the summer barbecue we had on the stoop with my cousins and Rick and the amazing slow cook pot roast which surely had to be food heaven . Aunt Sylvia always had some food treat to hand. Our last visit was made perfect by her pumpkin pies.
Mum and dad always had such fun when they were all together. Mum never stopped talking about the laughs they had on their road trip to the states. Sylvia was definitely a special person and for that reason will be hugely missed. I also know she was a very strong Christian and for that reason will most definitely be at peace always.
Much love and sadness from all of us on the UK side who had the pleasure of time with her.
Susan

Right now the strings of our hearts are pulling in all directions..north, south, east, west...a beautiful sister and sister in law gone into a journey of peace...another family link gone..her soul will be etched in our hearts forever..we are “FAMILY.” a most intricate part of Life..a part where Sylvia Porter left her mark....loving you so much was easy...missing you is so so hard.....your presence in our homes here in Newfoundland will always be remembered through those awesome memories of laughter..joking..or just sitting around a table filled with food and conversation..and of course Albert’s many cups of tea....we always laughed so hard at times..thinking we are all a crazy family but right now I’d take all that craziness to have you back ..but knowing how you suffered how can we be so greedy to even think that..our prayers are with every one of the family..our thoughts extend across those rough waters of the ocean..bringing flows of tears that we cannot hold back....tears that will eventually be replaced by beautiful memories where we can laugh without those tears..to love without hurting..and to live as all of us have to do....To Albert and your family..may God give you the strength to get through the days and months ahead....take each day in baby steps...there is never limitations on grief..But knowing Sylvia..she would NEVER want any of you to waste your time...enjoy all your moments in her honour.....she would expect nothing less..hugs wrapped around each and every one of you...love Roger and Sharon
